The Geneva Cardigans for the Oldest

I don't sew much for my boys, though I should, they are the most grateful recipients. My oldest needed a few hoodies/sweatshirts since he lost every single one during last school year. I made him two Geneva cardigans and he'd better not lose them. Just saying. lol The pattern is mine and can be purchased here.

He is almost 12 and not easy to sew for since he is not a little boy any longer. He did love his cardigans and one of his friends requested one for himself (not happening, lol) so I think I did all right.

The striped fabric came from Imagine Gnats store. I don't remember what it was but it feels like some sort of ponte and doesn't have much drape. Perfect for this project. The grey one is from my stash. I think it looks great together.

You might wonder if I chose the stripes for the back and sleeves because I didn't want to bother with matching stripes in the front. I dont' know what you are talking about. I wouldnt' be that lazy. Ahem. Totally a design choice. Totally. :)

The obligatory dabbing picture.

I made size 13 though he measures 12, but I want it to be a bit more roomy and hopefully last him longer, if he doesn't lose it, of course.

This one I actually made first and he wore it quite a bit. The blue is ponte knit I got at a local warehouse as a remnant. The grey is thicker jersey knit from my stash. I didn't have enough blue fabric (what else is new) and had to improvise.

Robot man. What a goof. lol.

  1. Wow, I do not kniw what I love more, those cardigans or those pictures of your son, putting a smile on my face. He is growing/changing so fast....

  2. These are such cool cardigans, and I laughed out loud at your stripe matching comment. I have a huge fear of stripe matching, so anytime I see any kind of matching, I am totally impressed! I can't believe how tall he is now!

  3. Wow, looking so, so grown up! And such cool cardigans. My son has a jacket that looks almost exactly the same as the blue on with gray sleeves. So that's definitely a design choice too! ;) Personally I think you're pretty genius for adding the solid gray to the stripes. I'm going to have to try that trick :)

  4. I love this!! And I love seeing folks sewing for their older boys. My lil guy is 8 now, and I'd love to keep sewing for him, but it's not a demographic that is well represented in sewing blogs! So thank you! Also, I need this pattern.

  5. These cardigans are so so good! I think you should send his friend your sewing pattern and tell him to go for it, LOL.

I love to hear from you!
